That's because our solid oak wood platform beds are designed to be simple and attractive; yet very affordable and strong beyond comparison. Our Beautiful Hand Rubbed Danish Oil Finish serves as a conditioner for the wood and will no doubt serve you well for many years. Its clear color will not change the natural color of the wood or the grain, but it will enhance both as it ages, to produce that rich aged look we all appreciate. Because the oil fills the pores of the wood, finger prints and day to day dirt are less likely to be absorbed into the wood in comparison to unfinished wood. NOTE: Danish Oil is NOT the same as a Lacquered/Glossy Finish; instead it is oil that leaves a slightly silky feel to natural untreated wood. Like all platform beds, this frame does not require the use of a foundation or box spring. We use Southern Yellow Pine bed slats for their strength to create a solid platform for your mattress while this also allows room for good air circulation. Outside bed height is 15 Inches while the actual platform height is 13.5 Inches (your mattress or futon will drop into a recessed area, allowing for approximately an inch lip to surround your mattress). Under-bed clearance is 10.5 Inches below the rail, so lots of storage space! Under bed storage drawers are available and sold separately. This bed comes ready-to-assemble, and assembly is so easy! There are no tools required; the (2) hex wrenches you need for assembly are included. Received this shipment in a fairly timely manner. First thing I noticed is that there were a few gouges on the outside railing - I put that side up against the wall. A few of the slats did not fit perfectly flat - ended up screwing those in. undoubtedly is it was pretty easy to put together. Once I made the adjustments and laid the mattress on it I undoubtedly had to work it in there to fit - the width was fine, but the distance of the side rails were too short by about a 1/2 inch. With some finagling and adjustments I made it work - not the way it should have, but, it works. beautiful wood, beautiful stop ... Just not the perfect fit without adding your own creativity.
